ASOJ “A Somali lawmaker reportedly involved in the abduction of Amanda and Nigel”

Ref: Press release

Associated Somali Journalists urges the Somali government to bring before the justice, the members of the parliament who are connected to the abduction of two journalists Amanda Lindhout and Nigel Brennan from August 23, 2008 to November 25, 2009.

ASOJ confirms that the abductors of the two journalists were former staff of an MP of the Somalia parliament, they used to escort him before he joined the institution.

Journalists from ASOJ made long time investigation during the abduction of the two journalists and verified that an MP in the parliament has been linked to the abduction of Amanda Lindhout and Nigel Brennan.

The reports that our members who did the investigation confirmed that the MP got his share of the ransom money after the release of the Journalists. Among the interesting facts we found is that Amanda was held in the house of the lawmaker , and that house is in Huriwa district of the north of Mogadishu.

Reports confirmed that $600,000 of the money, was sold a land property in Mogadishu soon it was taken from abducted Journalists, and ASOJ demands the government to take a crucial step to restore that money from the MP and his militia.

as same as we requested the government, we also urge the leadership of the legislation institution, the parliament, to take legal steps against the MP who is accused of having link with the abduction.

Finally, Associated Somali Journalists, ASOJ urges all the warring parts in Somalia to stop the violations against the press and the mass media in Somalia.
